Shoalhaven City Council and Rotary have already been very busy this new year. A historical Tripartite Agreement has been signed by Council, Berry Rotary and the NSW State Government. This momentous agreement solidifies the partnership with the three groups and ensures effective delivery of Stage 1 – Nature Play for Boongaree.

February 2020

Final detail design plans are now being complete for Stage 1 of Boongaree, which is the Rotary Nature Play Park.

The Rotary Club’s vision was to develop an exciting place for all ages and abilities to play, exercise and to have fun, and we are pleased to see this vision coming to reality.

The park incorporates various zones, including an exciting learn to ride facility, a childhood adventure zone with items like balance beams, accessible trampolines, carousel, sand and water play, musical tractor, and various imaginative self play areas.

A youth zone for older children includes fl ying fox, climbing nets and swings, handball courts as well as a climbing wall. For adults, there will be an extensive exercise equipment trail incorporating senior citizen graded items, so no what your age, there will be something to keep everyone active and involved.

Family picnic and bbq facilites are also included, along with an amenities block. It is intended to deliver this stage for the Community by early 2023.

Tis the season to be jolly and the Township of Berry has many reasons to celebrate! The delivery of Stage 1 (Children’s Adventure Zone, Youth Zone and Learn to Ride) will occur in 3 stages between 2020 and 2023.

Berry Rotary and Council are working together to deliver this nature-based play area for the Shoalhaven Community and visitors. This announcement is very exciting and a very big thank you to Berry Rotary for their vision and perseverance. A further thank you to Gareth Ward, MP for understanding the importance of such a project and assisting with the funding for the delivery of this wonderful facility.

November 2019

As the days grow longer and the pushbikes emerge from the garage, Shoalhaven City Council and Berry Rotary are riding on towards North St, where the Berry Rotary Nature Play area is waiting to emerge as a drawcard for kids of all ages, sizes and abilities. Part of the process of developing this play area is the need for a traffic plan, which will be presented at Council’s November Traffic Committee meeting for approval.

Although the space is currently dormant, there is plenty happening behind the scenes. Final designs are in the process of being completed and approvals for parking are imminent.

There is more to do, but with a spring in our step and with the assistance of the State Government; Shoalhaven City Council, Berry Rotary and the Berry Forum are collaborating to deliver a wonderful passive and recreation facility for the Berry township and the City of Shoalhaven.

October 2019

Council is pleased to welcome Project Manager, Tony Azzouni, to the Boongaree Team to deliver Stage 1 of the project. Boongaree is a seven-stage project that has been planned and designed with the input and hard work of Community, Council and Consultants.

Over the last four years, Council has worked diligently with Berry Rotary, Berry Forum, Berry Chamber of Commerce and all of the committed Community members that have put forth time, suggestions and assistance to the progression of Boongaree. Council is thankful for these partnerships as they provide vital information to all parts of the design process.

Council's Traffic Unit is currently putting together a report for the Traffic Committee in October. The report will discuss items such as parking and North St usage once the park is built.

Community have been an integral part to the design, fundraising and progression of this great project and there are opportunities for volunteers on this project. If you have a skill that you would like to share, please contact us via the information below.

September 2019

Get ready Berry, a new nature park is coming your way! Exciting things have been happening and Boongaree is on the path to being built. Council in partnership with the Rotary Club of Berry, Berry Forum, Berry Chamber of Commerce and other Community and Sporting Groups are working together to deliver the first funded stage which includes a dual flying fox (in late 2020) and other parts of the Rotary Nature Play Park (by the end of 2021).

Most importantly, Member for Kiama Gareth Ward MP has promised the Rotary Club of Berry $4 million to deliver the Nature Play Park. Though this funding is not included in this year's State budget hopefully it will be available soon.

Further stages include picnic areas. sporting fields, pump track, and dog off-leash area as additional funding becomes available. Although this project is partially funded by State and Federal grants.

Council and the Boongaree Working Group are working together on a Donor Package. Businesses and Community can contribute to the purchase of various components of Boongaree. Stay tuned for more info within the coming months.

At the Ordinary Meeting of Council on 18 December 2018, it was resolved that Council:

1. Support the amendments to the revised Master Plan and adopt the detail design for Boongaree.
2. Council receive a further report in relation to the skate park extension following further investigations.
3. Identify at a future quarterly budget review an initial budget allocation of $200,000 to utilise for matching funding for upcoming grant applications, including NSW Government Everyone Can Play Grant Initiative.
4. Develop a Business Case and Funding Plan for the staged delivery of Boongaree that identifies funding sources, including grant funding and community fundraising opportunities, over several budget cycles commencing 2018/19 for inclusion in Council’s long-term financial plan.

Update – 18 October 2018

The detailed design has been updated to since August 2018, with changes including:

• Junior field northern footpath moved
• Amenities have moved south a little bit to accommodate three bays (one being lift and change)
• Exercise equipment has moved to the North East area (Camp Quality area)
• Flying fox swapped with climbing area
• Footprint allocated for future multi user clubhouse
• BBQ/picnic area in open area of Nature Park

A few more refinements of the detailed design are expected, with the final masterplan on track for completion by the end of the month (October 2018).

Council is seeking a group of committed individuals to come together to help plan, design and build a native tucker garden in Boongaree (previously known as Berry District Park).

A garden design that is informed and loved by the community is essential to the community growth and connectivity of the area.

Volunteers will work in coordination with Council's planning and design teams, the Garden Club and Landcare.
