Boongaree

Whilst we have loved seeing the heavy foot traffic the opening of Boongaree has brought, we also hear and understand the frustrations with the lack of available car parking.

The Boongaree project has been broken into 7 stages, with car parking included in Stages 1, 5 and 7.

We are looking into decreasing the parking pressure.

Whilst we don’t think fast-tracking the final carparks will help, due to other stages of construction planned, we believe there are other options which we are currently investigating for improvement.

The current works being planned are an increased area to the paved car park to the South East of the park. These works will be completed in September 2022 for the creation of 16 spaces. We will then implement additional parking in April 2023 and then further in November 2023 in the next stages of the project for the development of the Cricket field, in Stages 5 and 7.

We will aim to improve signage here to ensure the project stages as well as the parking options are clearly signed.

Stage 4a will commence construction in May 2022.

This stage will see the delivery of two synthetic netball courts and four cricket nets. The four cricket nets will make Boongaree into a Regional Cricket training facility.

Works are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2022.

Council is encouraging visitors to Berry to participate in the 2022 Summer Longitudinal Survey which aims to identify the economic benefit that Boongaree will bring to the Berry Township.

The Boongaree area (previously known as Berry District Park) is being redeveloped to provide upgraded and new recreational facilities. Visitors are being surveyed at intervals over the duration of the project to produce data that can be used to identify economic impact. The development of Boongaree is an action in the Berry Strategic Plan designed to enhance commerce within the Township following the opening of the highway by-pass.

This survey will be completed in coordination with the Berry Chamber of Commerce. The information garnered will inform and enhance applications for grant funding for stages 4-7 of Boongaree and assist with current grant funding acquittals.

The survey closes on Monday, 7 March 2022.

We are excited to announce that the delivery of the Rotary Nature Play Park and Learn to Ride at Boongaree, Berry is approaching completion. These works form Stage 1 of the delivery of Boongaree. The official opening of Stage 1 is on Saturday, 22 January 2022.

Stage 1 includes an early childhood space, youth zone, exercise zone, amenities, and a learn to ride facility. Stage 1 also provides over 30 parking spaces, with accessible parking for all abilities and includes a lift and change facility within the amenities building.

This stage has been designed and delivered with extensive input from the community. The Rotary Club of Berry were key stakeholders throughout this process and provided support in securing State Government funding for elements of the project.

Boongaree is being delivered in 7 Stages. Future works include a new skate park and pump track with construction commencing in 2022), a dog park and improvements to the sporting facilities, including additional formal car parking for visitors in accordance with the Boongaree Master Plan.

Upon completion of all future stages of Boongaree will have ample parking on-site for daily visitors and major events. In the meantime, visitors may need to utilise on-street parking in the neighbouring streets or formal Council car parks within the Berry township.

Construction of stages 2 and 3 of the skate park and pump track commenced on 6 June 2022. The skate park construction is currently at 75% completion with the Pump Track due to commerce early November. Council is looking forward to Convic completing these works by early December.

Community input has been an integral part of the design process and has contributed time and efforts to making this a Regional skatepark. The skatepark has been designed to host competitions and provide a top-standard training venue.

The completion of the new skatepark and pump track will contribute to the skating and cycling facilities for Shoalhaven. With skateboarding now an Olympics sport, this is a great venue for training mini-Olympians.

Council is seeking community feedback to develop the concept for the Boongaree Dog Fenced Off-Leash Area (FOLA).

In December 2018, Council endorsed the Boongaree Master Plan. The plan was modified through a process of re-exhibition and community feedback, which resulted in the current Boongaree Master Plan.

Due to its size and scope, Boongaree is being delivered in stages. The Dog FOLA makes up Stage 6 of Boongaree. You can find more information on the project on the main Boongaree Get Involved webpage.

Council has prepared a draft preliminary concept design for the Boongaree dog FOLA to provide the Community with an idea of the proposed infrastructure, location and design.

Please view the Draft Preliminary Concept Design and provide your feedback through the Online Survey by Monday, 21 February 2021.

Council is inviting interested community members to provide input on the Draft Concept Plan of the Boongaree Dog Fenced Off-Leash Area (FOLA).

A Community Survey will be available in mid-January 2022 for the community and wider public to provide feedback on the draft Preliminary Concept Design, along with an on-site workshop in February 2022.

The workshop will be held on-site on Saturday, 12 February 2022 from 8am to10am at the western area of Boongaree. All are welcome. Register for the on-site workshop by submitting an Expression of Interest Form published on this web page.

The concept for the Boongaree Reconciliation Garden is only preliminary to provide Community with an understanding of the potential location, scale, and design. It will be subjected to many iterations prior to finalising first with the internal and external stakeholders, then at a broader Community presentation, Councillor Briefing, Public Exhibition and finally a Report to Council for endorsement.

Although the steps seem lengthy, this unique and important space will require meaningful conversation, research, and time in order to adequately capture what is needed. Council have created four Community workshops in order to capture the Community vision for this very special place. Although all of the workshops will build on the previous – Community is welcome to come to one or all.

Stage 4 of Boongaree consists of the Boongaree Reconciliation Garden. The purpose of the garden is to provide an inspiring space within the parkland for the community to connect with local Indigenous culture and explore ideas of reconciliation.

A separate Get Involved project page has been developed for the Garden project to make it easier to provide input and find information over the period of the project.

Stages 2 and 3 - Skatepark and Pump track tender will be released in August 2021 and works will commence early 2022. Stage 1 completion is nearing and is expected in December 2021. The Opening Day for Stage 1 will be announced when further advice is received by Health NSW. Stage 4 - 4 cricket nets and 2 Netball courts design are complete and will be delivered in late-2021/2022.

The Reconciliation Garden planning is underway and Council would like to develop an Elders Guidance Group to assist with the process of the design for the site.
