The Fenced Dog Off-Leash Area forms Stage 6 of the master plan for Boongaree.

It will be located to the west of the regional playspace and proposed junior sports field (Stage 5). It is intended to provide a safe, enclosed dog agility area.

This project is being funded and delivered by the Rotary Club of Berry as a community-led initiative.

    Funding & Delivery Solution Identified – Works to Commence in June

    The Fenced Off-Leash Area at Boongaree is being funded and delivered by the Rotary Club of Berry as a community-led initiative and will be delivered in line with the Council-prepared Concept Plan, which reflects community feedback gathered through multiple consultation periods undertaken in 2022.

    Next Steps

    Delivery of the project will occur in stages:

    Stage 1 works will include:

    • Installation of perimeter fencing;
    • Seating;
    • Connection to water services.

    Future stages (subject to funding) will include:

    • Footpath connections;
    • Shade structures;
    • Additional features as outlined in the concept plan.

    Construction of the Stage 1 works are expected to commence on 15 June 2026.

    Council has undertaken multiple consultation activities to inform the design of the Boongaree Fenced Off-Leash Area (FOLA).

    Online Survey (January – February 2022)

    An online survey was available from 12 January to 21 February 2022, receiving 35 responses. Key outcomes included:

    • 74% indicated they would use the proposed facility;
    • 57% supported the concept.

    Common qualitative feedback themes included:

    • Separate areas for large and small dogs;
    • Provision of drinking water at entrances;
    • Dog waste bag dispensers;
    • Secure fencing to ensure dog safety.

    On-site Workshop (February 2022)

    A community workshop was held on 12 February 2022 at the proposed site, with 9 participants. The workshop focused on the draft preliminary concept plan and desired features.

    Key themes of the feedback included:

    • A natural, low-impact design that integrates with the Boongaree precinct;
    • Consideration of fencing, seating, pathways, and shelters that reflect the surrounding environment.

    Concept Design Public Exhibition (September – October 2022)

    A concept plan informed by consultation was publicly exhibited from 14 September to 31 October 2022. Feedback from this process, along with updates to the Boongaree Master Plan, informed further amendments.

    The Concept Plan has now been finalised for progression to construction and can be viewed HERE.
