Community participation and engagement forms a crucial partnership between Council and community. It is the foundation of Council’s planning and decision-making processes.

To ensure residents are informed about projects and initiatives, and can provide feedback, we need to know how and when we engage with the community.

We’re now developing a Community Engagement Strategy 2025 – 2029 which will establish a consistent, best-practice approach to genuinely engage Shoalhaven communities.

This plan will incorporate two key documents:

  • Community Engagement Strategy and Framework
  • Community Participation Plan for Planning and Development Matters (CPP)

The strategy and framework help guide how we consult the community about all projects and initiatives happening in the Shoalhaven while the CPP outlines how we will engage with the community specifically about matters relating to land use planning and development.

The CPP will form part of, and be included in, Council's broader draft Community Engagement Strategy 2025-2029, which was exhibited throughout November-December 2024 and January 2025.

    Community Participation Plan for Planning and Development Matters

    The Community Participation Plan for Planning and Development Matters (CPP) is designed to make participation in planning clearer for communities. It does this by setting out how and when communities can participate in Land use planning and development matters throughout the various stages of proposals to Council.

    The CPP also outlines community participation objectives which are used to guide approaches to community engagement. It provides transparency and clarity for the community to clearly understand its role in the development assessment and planning process.
