The need to advance the improvement efforts of the Warden Head Lighthouse is a grassroots, community-led project driven by the Ulladulla Lighthouse Group. The group was established four years ago and convenes regularly to discuss issues relating to the site. With the aim to improve the useability of the site and increase safety for residents and visitors, the group plays an active role in advocating for improvements, including applying for funding for the development of a Master Plan.

The community-led plan for the Warden Head Lighthouse has involved several stakeholders including key partners, Crown Lands who own and manage the site. Locale Consulting have been engaged by the group to lead the community consultation and development of the Master Plan. On completion, the Warden Head Lighthouse Master Plan will be presented to the Ulladulla Lighthouse Group with a series of prioritised, actionable items to continue to advocate for and advance the upgrade of the Warden Head Lighthouse.

Council is proud to support the efforts of, and collaborate with the Ulladulla Lighthouse Group to design the community-led Warden Head Lighthouse Master Plan which aims to build on the existing character of the lighthouse and improve the recreational experience for visitors to the site.

The Master Plan will cover the area on which the lighthouse is located. This land is owned and managed by Crown land and is highlighted in red below on Figure 1. It will also consider the access road off Deering Street, and the surrounding public land (shown on Figure 2) but this area is not subject to the Master Plan.

Works at Warden Head Lighthouse are progressing well. The contractors are returning to the site on 16 February 2023 to install all of the signage and fencing. The signage install also includes the eagle. The lighting will be installed in the first week of March at this stage. After that all works on site will be complete.

There has been a delay in getting the contractor to site to complete the remaining car park works (last layer of asphalt and line marking) and we are caught up in the demand for road contractors to fix storm damage.

At this stage the asphalt is scheduled for Friday 9 December, but as there is a risk it could get pushed back into next week. The remaining works are not impacted and would be ready to open on 9 December, but with the car park delay, the opening will be delayed. Plus, the car park would need to be closed for 1 day next week to undertake the line marking.

Construction works are progressing with all subsurface works completed.

Due to wet weather delays, and contractor availability, the construction works are scheduled to be completed in mid-November 2022. This date also takes into account the expected further wet weather delays.

In the attached images below you can see the completed viewing platform, stage and car park kerb. The light pole has also been removed and the contractor has taken delivery of the landscaping materials (sandstone blocks).

Due to some delays with weather and design clarifications, the completion date has been pushed to 7 October 2022. Favourable weather conditions will allow for the car park and concreting to continue and be completed on time.

Ayling Drury are currently completing the signage design and will provide all signage stakeholders with the final copy to view prior to fabrication.
