As part of Council’s Pedestrian Access and Mobility Plan (PAMP) the following two shared user paths (SUP) are being considered as part of the ongoing network connectivity improvements for the St Georges Basin, Basin View, and Sanctuary Point communities:

1. Loralyn Avenue, Sanctuary Point

This proposal in Sanctuary Point would involve the construction of a 486m long and 2m wide SUP starting at the existing path in Kerry Street, continuing along the eastern sides of Anson Street and Loralyn Avenue, and finishing at the intersection of Walmer Avenue.

This project has been funded by the Community Development Grant Program. Council is welcoming community feedback on this proposal prior to proceeding any further with its implementation.

2. Walmer Avenue, Sanctuary Point

This proposal in Sanctuary Point would involve the construction of a 1000m long and 2m wide SUP starting at Loralyn Avenue, continuing along the southern side of Walmer Avenue, and finishing at Paradise Beach Road.

This project is under concept design and not yet funded for construction. Council has developed two options for the Community’s consideration and feedback prior to proceeding to detailed design:

  • Option 1 would provide new kerb and gutter with the SUP being located immediately behind it. Although this proposal provides a flatter and more comfortable path to walk on that is in accordance with Australian guidelines, it would require that Walmer Avenue be narrowed. This option would thus result in the loss of all parking along the southern side of Walmer Avenue.
  • Option 2 would provide the SUP closer to the property boundary. This proposal would retain the existing road width, kerb and gutter and parking arrangements. In some sections where the SUP crosses existing driveways, the pathway would be steeper and less comfortable than is desired under Australian guidelines.
