The baton will arrive in Nowra in a spectacular array of
excitement as a navy helicopter flies with the baton over the Shoalhaven River,
over the Nowra bridge and is then lowered into a vessel to be rowed to the
shore near Nowra Aquatic Centre. The Centre will be a hype of activity with
bands, food and entertainment. The pool
is open free of charge for the afternoon.
The baton will make a spectacular arrival by Navy helicopter
flying over the Shoalhaven River, Nowra CBD and the Nowra bridge before landing
on Greys Beach. From there it will travel across the river on a Navy RHIB to
the Nowra Aquatic Centre which will be hosting a free festive afternoon of
food, music entertainment and pool entry.
The relay convoy will move past the hospital, showgrounds,
down Junction Street, and make a round trip through the city centre and onto
the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre where a community event will take place.
Our streets will be aligned with colour, people and music
welcoming the baton bearers as the baton makes its way to the final destination
for the day in Nowra, the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre.
The lawns of the
Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre will be transformed into an open air carnival
of music, food and entertainment that excites and ignites community pride
whilst generating enthusiasm and building anticipation for the upcoming
The community event features a circus and sporting theme
attracting over a thousand people as schools, sporting groups and families will
get involved in the spirit of the day.
Various competitions will be held in the lead up to the day to
decorate and activate the City involving retailers, schools, DJs and a Photo
and Art Competition to engage photographers and artists.
