About the Project
Shoalhaven City Council is proposing to enter into a licence agreement with the NRMA to operate an EV charging station at the car park on Berry Street, Nowra.
The community is invited to provide feedback on the proposal, which includes the installation of four DC fast chargers, including two 180kW ABB Terra DC chargers capable of charging an Electric Vehicle (EV) to 80% in 20 minutes (subject to vehicle specifications and competing power load).
The proposed station is part of a national network to connect regional Australia with ultra-rapid DC charging stations. The project aims to lower emissions, improve air quality, support environmental health, and boost the local economy by making Nowra a convenient stop for EV recharging.
The NRMA will cover all construction and operational costs, and the community is invited to provide feedback during the consultation period.

Proposed EV Charging Site
This proposal aims to support the community by providing EV infrastructure that will:
Lower emissions, improve air quality, and support long-term environmental health.
Help residents, businesses, and organizations in Nowra and the Shoalhaven City Council area decide to purchase EVs through public use infrastructure.
Encourage long-distance commuters and tourists to drive EVs to regional Australia with confidence.
Stimulate the local economy by making Nowra a convenient recharging stop for EVs.
The NRMA, under a Federal Government grant, will cover all construction and operational costs, and the community is invited to provide feedback during the consultation period. This project also aligns with Council’s Sustainability and Climate Action Plan (Sustainability and Climate Action Plan | Shoalhaven City Council).
In 2022, Council updated its EV Charging Stations on Public Land Policy to help guide decision-making and planning of EV charging infrastructure across our region. Under this Policy, Council is committed to undertake community consultation when planning new EV charging infrastructure on public land.
The community is invited to comment on the proposal between Wednesday 27th November 2024 and Tuesday 24th December 2024.
