What is being proposed?

Council is considering a proposal submitted by a local not-for-profit organisation to use the northeastern corner of the Milton Showground for a community garden. The garden would provide opportunities for growing plants, hosting workshops, and engaging the community.

What activities could take place at the community garden?

    The proposed use includes:

      • Operating a community garden
      • Hosting workshops and community activities
      • Plant propagation
      • Providing a family-friendly space
      • Potential for future fruit and vegetable sales

Why is Council consulting on this proposal?

Council wants to ensure the community has an opportunity to provide feedback on the proposed use of the land before entering into a licence agreement.

What engagement has been undertaken so far?

Council has met with representatives of the local not-for-profit organisation to discuss the concept and potential benefits. Direct consultation has also taken place with relevant stakeholders and user groups to identify a suitable garden footprint.

Will the consultation decide the exact location or design of the garden?

No. This consultation is focused on the proposed use of the land, not the footprint, layout, or design of the garden.

    How can I provide feedback?

You can complete the online survey available on this page during the consultation period. Submissions close on 31 January 2026.

    What happens after the consultation?

Council will review all feedback received and consider it before making a decision on whether to proceed with the licence agreement.

Who will manage the community garden?

If approved, the garden will be managed by a local not-for-profit organisation under a licence agreement with Council.
