Shoalhaven Affordable Housing Strategy

The 2021 census indicated that more than 4,000 households in Shoalhaven are in housing stress and that a further 2,000 households need affordable housing.

Council has published an Affordable Housing Strategy to guide its contribution to addressing this affordable housing challenge. The Strategy outlines actions and activities which may help increase housing supply and improve affordability through planning controls, development contributions, use of public land, and advocacy efforts.

Council has established the Affordable Housing Action Taskforce to help implement the Strategy. Taskforce members include Councillors, community members, and representatives of community housing providers, organisations providing crisis and transitional accommodation, and the development industry.

The Taskforce guides work to implement the actions set in the Strategy by leveraging the knowledge, skills, and connections of its members.
