Shoalhaven City Council is in the process of developing a concept masterplan which will provide guidance and certainty for the long-term use of the regional boating facility by the recreational boating community. The investigation and future upgrades will consider an upgrade of the existing boat launching ramp, jetty and associated facilities off Prince Edward Avenue,Crookhaven Heads.
Funding for Stage 1 of this project is being applied through the Transport for NSW Boating Now Program which provides grant funding opportunities to improve maritime infrastructure and facilities across NSW. This investment will support the needs of recreational and commercial boaters and enables broader economic and social benefits for communities. The Program is funded from boating licence, registration and other fees collected by Transport for NSW (TfNSW). Since its inception in 2014, the Program has already delivered over 200 boating projects to the benefit of boaters across the NSW.
The proposed upgrade provides a new boat ramp, with two lanes, and a central accessible walkway pontoon. The inclusion of a pontoon will greatly improve accessibility. The proposed design will also address the proposed replacement of the existing timber jetty in the same location. Environmental due diligence through the enaction of impact assessments and specialist studies, and licenses and permits needing to be obtained from State Government Agencies, will be explored, and addressed as the project continues to be developed. In addition, the masterplan seeks to address existing issues with the surrounding facilities and proposes measures to improveusers’security, amenity, and connectivity.
This project is in the conceptual stage and is currently unfunded. Council is inviting the community to provide feedback on the need for improvements at this site and the suitability of the current Crookhaven Heads Boat Ramp Master Plan Upgrade Conceptto assist with decision-making on the future of the project, and to help inform grant funding application.
