Some of the footpaths in the Bayswood development in Vincentia have wooden bollards alongside them. Council is currently considering removal of some of the bollards along a section of path (See map above for specific location).
Why should the bollards be kept:
They separate pedestrians from vehicles, preventing parked vehicles from encroaching onto the footpath.
In some locations they also prevent vehicles from driving onto our reserves and parkland, and the neighbouring National Park.
Why should the bollards be removed:
Their proximity to the path, often makes them a hazard for pedestrians, especially children on bicycles.
They are time consuming for council maintenance crews to mow around, increasing maintenance costs.
Unfortunately given current financial constraints, replacing the bollards with an alternate treatment is not currently a feasible option for Council.
Following this trial removal (if it proceeds), Council will review the outcomes of this change and conduct additional community consultation prior to considering extending this treatment to other areas within the Bayswood Estate.
