A location is being sought for the Bay and Basin Boxing Club within Sanctuary Point. After careful consideration and site evaluations, Clifton Park has emerged as the preferred location for the Bay and Basin Boxing Club.

2. Activation – Clifton Park is used by a range of community members.

3. Safe and Secure – Clifton Park provides suitable passive surveillance. The proposed location ensures a safe and secure environment for all users.

The Bay and Basin Boxing Club’s vision is to create a welcoming and inclusive space for many uses, including promoting community engagement and safety.

A Notice of Motion titled Bay and Basin Boxing Club - Building location investigation was considered at the Council's Ordinary Meeting on 12 September 2022 (MIN22.612).

It was resolved:

That Council investigate suitable locations or suitable sites to establish a facility for the Bay and Basin Boxing Club, including but not limited to Councill facilities / buildings.

The Bay and Basin Boxing Club (BBBC) has indicated they intend to operate the business under a ‘not-for-profit model’. At present the coach provides coaching voluntarily and funds the BBBC’s activities. BBBC will also fund the construction of the facility.

    At Council's Ordinary Meeting on 30 October 2023 it was resolved:

    That Council:

    1. Accepts the Bay and Basin Boxing Club: ‘site investigations and proposed engagement activity’ report in relation to the outcomes of investigations undertaken to date in response to MIN22.612;
    2. Provide in-principle endorsement for Clifton Park as the preferred location for a facility for the Bay and Basin Boxing Club, based on investigations undertaken to date (subject to further investigations);
    3. Direct the CEO (Director City Lifestyles) to undertake engagement activities outlined in the Community Consultation chapter of this report; and
    4. Receive a future report outlining the results of engagement activities and further recommendations in relation to the establishment of facilities at Clifton Park to house the Bay & Basin Boxing Club.
