Properties in the Woollamia, St Andrews Way and Berrys Bay area are soon to be connected to the sewerage scheme by way of a pressure sewerage system.

Shoalhaven City Council resolved that a pressure system be designed in the 2018/2019 financial year and that construction be completed by the end of the 2019/2020 financial year.

Shoalhaven Water(External link), a Group of Shoalhaven City Council is undertaking the project.

Owners and residents were invited to discuss the construction phase with the contractor Ledonne Constructions and Shoalhaven Water representatives at a community information session in November 2019.

What is a pressure sewerage system?

Pressure sewerage systems comprise of a small on-property pumping station that pumps the household sewage into a pressurised reticulation system in the street which thereafter conveys your household sewage to a nearby existing pumping station, then to the Huskisson/Vincentia Sewage Treatment Plant (STP).

To give you more detail on what a pressure sewer system comprises, please view the information sheet on Pressure Sewer System Advice (external link). This information sheet has been provided to each property owner involved in the scheme.

A standard installation will be similar to the below illustration (click image to download as PDF).

Further information can be found in Council’s Pressure Sewer System Policy for Backlog Schemes (external link). This document details Council’s adopted approach to delivering a pressure sewer scheme and outlines the process and the potential charges that could apply to individual property owners.

The process for decommissioning an onsite sewage management system is shown in the provided flow chart.
