Illegal dumping is damaging our environment, harming wildlife, and costing our community hundreds of thousands of dollars every year. We need your ideas to help tackle this growing issue.

What’s your best idea to reduce illegal dumping in the Shoalhaven?

For example, it can be:

  • Better signs and clear messaging in hotspot areas
  • New community education programs
  • Smarter ways to encourage recycling (e.g., tyres, e‑waste or construction materials)

Once you submit the ideas between period: 2 February to 22 March, the voting will be made open to all community members for the ideas they believe will have the greatest impact starting 23 March.

The ideas that receive the most votes will help guide future Council initiatives and their contributors will go into a draw to win exciting gift vouchers worth $100 each (total 3 prizes to be won).

A quick note about tip fees: these are set by the NSW Government through the waste levy, and Council doesn’t have the authority to change them. As part of the campaign, we are hearing your concerns and can confirm that we will continue to advocate for our community, however, we’re also looking for ideas we can put into action locally to help prevent illegal dumping.

For example, residents may suggest simple “Know Your Waste” pop‑up stalls at local markets, where people can ask questions and learn the right way to dispose of tricky items.
