Have your say on proposed improvements to pedestrian safety
Council invites the community to provide feedback on the proposed improvements to pedestrian safety at Victoria Street, Berry.
Thanks to grant funding under the NSW Government’s Road Safety Program / School Infrastructure Projects, Council is proposing to upgrade the existing children’s crossing from a crossing that is on the existing road level and only activated by marshals at the start and finish of school hours to a raised pedestrian (zebra) crossing.
The existing children's crossing is located directly opposite the Berry Public School and is a well-utilised crossing point during peak morning and afternoon school hours. Victoria Street also serves as a highly trafficked thoroughfare, both during and outside of school peak hours.
The proposed raised pedestrian (zebra) crossing will:
provide pedestrians with the right of way at all times
reinforce safer speeds and driver behaviour due to the crossing's raised component
require signage and line-marking changes.
Have Your Say
Council has produced a draft design for the crossing upgrade and we invite the community to comment on the proposal.
There are three ways you can have your say:
Click on the 'Make a Submission' tab below and share your views. You have the option to upload a document and/or type your comments directly into the form.
Post your feedback to: Chief Executive Officer, PO BOX 42, Nowra 2541.
Please note, all feedback must be received by 5pm on Thursday, 16 June 2022 to be considered by Council.
Once submissions have closed, Council will compile your feedback into a report to be submitted to the Shoalhaven Traffic Committee for a recommendation on its technical aspects. Following this, the proposal will be considered for endorsement by Council at its Ordinary Meeting (or approved by Delegated Authority).
