Queen's Baton Relay Nowra

Join the celebrations of the Queen's Baton Relay as it visits Nowra on Monday, 5 February 2018.

In the lead up to the Commonwealth Games, the Shoalhaven is excited to be hosting The Queen’s Baton Relay. The relay is a historic and exciting opportunity to host a stand out celebration that showcases our area and its diverse community.

This is a unique opportunity for your organisation to be part of The Queen’s Baton Relay when it visits Nowra on Monday, 5 February 2018 from 2.00pm – 8.00pm. Start with a free Pool Party at 2pm, then view the Queen's Baton Relay from 4.30 pm

The community is encouraged to get involved, come out and show your support. See you there.

  • Queen’s Baton Relay Temporary Road Closures

    Nowra will showcase the Queen’s Baton Relay on Monday, 5 February 2018 and its arrival and route will cause intermittent road closures for short periods in the Nowra CBD and along the Shoalhaven River foreshore.

    The Queen’s Baton Relay will make a spectacular arrival on the banks of the Shoalhaven River by Navy helicopter landing on Greys Beach at 4:20pm. From there, it will travel across the river on a Royal Australian Navy Rigid-Hulled Inflatable Boat to the Nowra Aquatic Park which will be hosting a free pool party from 2pm -4pm.

    Nowra will showcase the Queen’s Baton Relay on Monday, 5 February 2018 and its arrival and route will cause intermittent road closures for short periods in the Nowra CBD and along the Shoalhaven River foreshore.

    The Queen’s Baton Relay will make a spectacular arrival on the banks of the Shoalhaven River by Navy helicopter landing on Greys Beach at 4:20pm.     The Queen’s Baton Relay and convoy will continue its route to Scenic Drive past the hospital, showgrounds, down Junction Street, and make a round trip through the city centre and onto the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre at 5:30pm, where a community event will take place.

    The lawns of the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre will be transformed into an open–air carnival of music, food and entertainment from 4pm – 8pm.

    To help manage the traffic and extra people in the area, the following temporary road closures will be in place:

    GREYS BEACH CAR PARK AND WHARF – Closed all day.

    NOWRA AQUATIC PARK - Between 1:30pm-4:30pm - Scenic Drive from Bridge Road to Junction Street

    SHOALHAVEN HOSPITAL – Between 4.20pm – 4.40pm - Rolling road closures will impact the hospital.

    NOWRA CBD - Between 4:30pm – 5:40pm

    Junction Street – from Scenic Drive to Kinghorne Street

    Kinghorne Street – from Junction Street to Worrigee Street

    Berry Street – from Worrigee Street to North Street

    North Street – from Berry Street to Graham Street

    Graham Street – from North Street to Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre

    Detours will be in place during these hours, however, delays may be experienced with access to and from properties and businesses during these hours. The delays will be minimised where possible.

    Council appreciates your assistance and co-operation during this one-off event. If you are likely to be impacted by the closures at these times, why not come down and enjoy the relay and the festivities.     You will be in a prime position to see the arrival of the Queen's Baton Relay as it is helicoptered in over the Shoalhaven River.

    • Images are to be submitted as hi res JPEG files with a minimum photo size of 1MB (1024 pixels on its shortest side) to a maximum of 5MB
    • Include in your email: your name, title of photo/artwork, contact phone and location the photo was taken
    • Deadline for submission of photos is Friday, February 9 2018

    • Permission from Parent/Guardian must be provided if entrant is under 18 years of age Terms and Conditions:
    • Entry is free. There is a limit of five entries per applicant.
    • You consent to your photograph being used by Shoalhaven City Council in exhibitions, online and in features related to this competition. Photo/art used will be credited to you. We will not use your photo/art for any other purpose without your prior permission.
