Community Consultation

In May 2023, the community was invited to provide feedback about a proposed EV Charging Station at Ulladulla. We appreciate the 116 responses provided that will be used to determine if commercial provider, Evie Networks will build and operate the facility with support from a NSW Government Grant.

About the Project

The Australian Electric Vehicle (EV) industry is in the early stages of development. In cities and regional centres, charging blackspots (areas that do not have convenient access to public charging stations) are a growing issue. To address charging gaps across the Shoalhaven and to meet growing community demand, Council is working to identify suitable locations where different types of EV charging infrastructure can be installed.

In 2022, Council updated its EV Charging Stations on Public Land Policy to help guide decision-making and planning of EV charging infrastructure across our region. Under this Policy, Council is committed to undertake community consultation when planning new EV charging infrastructure on public land.

Proposed EV Charging Site

The proposed EV chargers located at 85 South Street, Ulladulla will be accessible to all EV drivers and will host 2 x PKM ultra-fast chargers (servicing 4 EV charging bays).

Key information on the proposed chargers:

  • The EV chargers will use 100% renewable energy
  • 4 x car park spaces will be converted to EV charging spaces
  • The cost of charging sessions will be based on c/kWh consumed
  • The chargers will be operated and maintained by Evie Network’s dedicated operations team
  • Depending on the solar capacity of the site, the design may include a solar canopy and battery. The solar canopy would cover up to 12 parking bays providing additional shading and weather protection to these spaces. The battery unit would store the solar power generated by the canopy and minimise the draw from the grid.

Council invites community feedback on the proposed EV charging project.
