Shoalhaven Growth Management Strategy 2019-2041

In November 2018, Council asked for your feedback on a discussion paper to help inform the preparation of an updated Growth Management Strategy.

This paper explored where and how growth could occur and which areas and values should be protected. The paper provided information on Shoalhaven’s changing community and the opportunities and challenges the City is likely to experience over the next 20 years.

The project team spoke with many people between November 2018 and January 2019 and collected 166 submissions. The community provided a large amount of feedback on a broad range of matters. This feedback has been summarised in a Community Engagement Report. Council will use this report and the detailed feedback in the submissions as a reference, considering this information as the project team update the Growth Management Strategy and develop the broader Local Strategic Planning Statement.

Shoalhaven City Council asked for your feedback on a Discussion Paper (pdf 3.7MB) about the update of the Growth Management Strategy. This Paper was exhibited between November 2018 - January 2019, with the opportunity to provide feedback on it ending in January 2019.

The project team is currently reviewing the responses received and will publish an Engagement Report in July 2019. This report will summarise the feedback received. The matters identified in the submissions will be used to inform the preparation of a draft updated Strategy. Council intends to publicly exhibit and seek your feedback on a draft updated Strategy early next year (2020).

Shoalhaven Character Assessments

Council also asked for your feedback on a draft Shoalhaven Character Assessments Report prepared by the NSW Department of Planning, Industry, and Environment and Roberts Day (an urban design company).

Your feedback on this document has been passed to Roberts Day for its consideration.

Local Strategic Planning Statement

Council is also developing a Local Strategic Planning Statement, a new strategic land-use policy document setting out how Council will meet the community’s needs over the next 20 years. This Statement will explain the basis for strategic planning with regards to economic, social and environmental matters. It covers how Council anticipates the City will change and the infrastructure and services required by the community.

This means the Statement will address a broad range of matters such as:

• Housing supply, diversity and affordability
• Employment and economic growth
• Environmental protection
• Preserving the character of towns and villages, and
• Infrastructure and service provision.

Your feedback on the Growth Management Discussion Paper and Character Assessment Report will be considered as the Local Strategic Planning Statement is developed.

Please be advised that the exhibition of the Shoalhaven Growth Management Strategy (GMS) Discussion Paper and accompanying Draft Shoalhaven Character Assessment Report has been extended from Friday 7 December 2018 to Wednesday 2 January 2019.

The Shoalhaven Growth Management Strategy Drop-in Session at Huskisson Community Centre has been rescheduled to be held on Thursday 6 December, from 3.30 - 6.30pm.

The drop in session was originally planned for Wednesday 28 November 2018 but was cancelled due to various weather warnings being issued on the day for heavy rain, wind and possible flash flooding.
