Shoalhaven City Council is currently reviewing the Guidelines for the Conduct of Community Consultative Bodies (CCB).
Community consultation is an important component of responsible decision making and Council employs a variety of methods to actively engage local communities. One means by which Council is committed to consulting with the community is by a two-way communication process with organisations recognised by Council as CCBs.
CCBs are community groups that are formally recognised by Council as being responsible for representing the residents and ratepayers of a given area.
Council currently recognises 24 CCBsacross the Shoalhaven.
These community groups play an important role in disseminating information, facilitating discussion on a range of matters such as public policy, land developments, works and services, and communicating the collective views of the community to Council.
Guidelines Review
The operation of CCBs is governed by the now-called Community Consultative Bodies Guidelines.
Council reviewed this policy so they are relevant and effective and reflect the current operating environment.
Thank you for your input, the consultation period has now closed.
The updated Guidelines were adopted by Council on 25 September 2023, the document can be found here on the CCB Guidelines web page.

At Council's Ordinary Meeting on 25 September 2023 (MIN23.566) it was RESOLVED:
That Council:
1. Notes the summary of feedback received regarding amendments to the revised draft Community Consultative Body - Guidelines (POL23/44).
2. Adopt the Community Consultative Body – Guidelines (POL23/44).
3. Acknowledge and thank the Community Consultative Bodies, community members and stakeholders involved in community consultation for their contribution and feedback to the Community Consultative Body – Guidelines (POL23/44).

At Council's Ordinary Meeting on 27 February 2023 (MIN23.86) it was RESOLVED
That:
The time for submissions regarding CL22.616 (Review of the Community Consultative Bodies Policy) be extended from 6 March 2023 to 3 April 2023.
Council receive a further report following the public exhibition period
Communicate to the Community Consultative Bodies that the Policy is proceeding to public exhibition and request their feedback.

Extensive consultation has been undertaken with submissions received from both Community Consultative Bodies and the broader community in previous years to inform a review of the CCB Guidelines. That review is pending adoption and this review seeks to honour and instate the changes suggested by community in the previous review. Since then further feedback and organisational changes within Council have been taken into consideration and minor adjustments made.
