Project Overview and Purpose

What is the Shoalhaven Boating Infrastructure Optimisation Plan and Management Strategy?

This project has been initiated from Council’s various Coastal Management Programs (CMPs) to create a long-term plan for managing, upgrading, and prioritising boating infrastructure (such as ramps, jetties, and pontoons) across the Shoalhaven.

Why is this plan being developed?

Through the development of the various Coastal Management Programs (CMPs) it was identified that Council needed to create a strategic plan for the management of boating infrastructure across the Shoalhaven to ensure a prioritised and coordinated approach to asset management.

The plan will aim to identify clear management actions for Council-managed boating assets, to ensure boating infrastructure is safe, efficient, and sustainable, while balancing community needs, environmental impacts, and available funding.

What types of infrastructure are included?

The project looks at a wide range of Council-managed boating facilities, including:

    • Boat ramps
    • Wharves and jetties
    • Pontoons

Other infrastructure around these facilities, including fish cleaning tables, will be noted through the assessment of each facility to provide a full picture of the condition and infrastructure at these locations.

Outcomes and Approach

What will the plan actually deliver?

The final Boating Infrastructure Optimisation Plan and Management Strategy will include:

    • Summary of the condition inspection of all Council-managed boating facilities
    • Recommendations for upgrades, maintenance, or changes to existing assets, and
    • A prioritised program of works to support Council’s long-term management of these assets.

Will existing boating facilities change or be removed?

The plan will review each asset’s condition, use, and value, and may recommend upgrades, improved management, or in some cases rationalisation of facilities where appropriate.

How will community needs be considered?

Community use, access, and feedback are key inputs. A survey will be made available to the community to provide feedback on how facilities across the Shoalhaven are used.

This information will be used to inform the plan and the recommendations made for each facility.

Delivery, Funding and Engagement

    Who is funding this project?

The project is supported by grant funding from Transport for NSW through the Boating Infrastructure for Communities Grants Program.

What is the timeline for the project?

Work expected to commence June 2026 with an estimated completion of 30 October 2026.

How can the community stay informed or get involved?

Updates will be provided by Council as the project progresses, and there will be opportunities for consultation or feedback during the planning process that will be posted to the project Get Involved Page.
