Local Government Regional NAIDOC Awards 2019

The Local Government Regional NAIDOC Awards have concluded for 2019. Thank you to all who provided nominations or attended the event.

Voice.Treaty.Truth - Let's work together for a shared future

Shoalhaven City Council will be hosting the 2019 Local Government Regional NAIDOC Awards at the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre on Saturday 27th July 2019 in partnership with Kiama Municipal Council, Shellharbour City Council and Wollongong City Council.

The Local Government Regional NAIDOC Awards are hosted as part of NAIDOC week celebrations, every year, to recognise the outstanding contributions made by Indigenous individuals and organisation within their respective communities.

The Awards provide an opportunity for celebrating NAIDOC week and for promoting and recognising the talents, excellence, and significant contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their organisations make to their own and broader communities in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven regions. This event serves a very important role in promoting regional cooperation between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people, local councils and other organisations and businesses.

NAIDOC Week is 7 July 2019 - 14 July 2019

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC week plays a vital role, not only celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander achievements but the rich history, diverse cultures and survival of the oldest continuing cultures in the world.

NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

Each year there is a different theme, based on community issues, political issues, significant events and/or celebrations.

The NAIDOC theme for 2019 is: Voice. Treaty. Truth - Let's work together for a shared future
