Playground relocation - Bayswood, Vincentia

Shoalhaven City Council is engaging landowners within the Bayswood residential area regarding the Pacific City Park playground and seeking feedback on options to improve the facility. Pacific City Park is located on Coaster Circuit, Vincentia.

Background

Since the playground’s installation in 2008, there have been ongoing issues related to the low lying location and its inaccessibility for community and maintenance due to regular water logging. The water logging of the site is due to the close proximity of a waterway and soil condition limitations. The water logging of the site has also compromised the normal lifespan of the existing playground. Therefore, Council plans to replace the playground within the current financial year (2016-17).

To provide increased playground access and longevity for the Bayswood community, Council is proposing to upgrade and relocate the current playground. Council will then rehabilitate the site of the existing play equipment with soil and turf which will increase the grassland space within the park.

Council previously engaged with landowners and residents regarding the preferred site for the relocated playground. Two sites were identified by Council as suitable; Pacific City Park (slightly south of the existing playground) and Bristlebird Park (corner of Halloran Street and Summercloud Cresent).

Council staff undertook community consultation from 28 October to 30 November 2016 and facilitated an onsite drop in information session on 12 November 2016.

Community feedback indicated a clear preference for the playground to be relocated on higher ground in its existing location of Pacific City Park.

Playground design

Council sought feedback from 10 March until 26 March 2017 to determine the preferred option of equipment to be installed in the playground.

Council is currently assessing the feedback and will soon proceed with installing the overall preferred option.
