Bushcare Group Action Plans

Consultation has concluded

Shoalhaven City Council actively supports a Bushcare Program within the City. The aim of the Shoalhaven City Council Bushcare Group is to promote and implement ecologically sustainable management of the natural bushland areas, parks and reserves within the City of Shoalhaven by encouraging community ownership and supporting community members in becoming actively involved in group activities.

The objectives of the Bushcare program are:

  • To conserve biodiversity and maintain ecosystem function in respect of the land, which is categorised as a Natural Area, under the Local Government Act 1991.
  • To work in areas categorized as natural areas - community land, and provide for the restoration and regeneration of these areas under the direction of Council in accordance with best practice bush regeneration techniques.
  • Re-vegetate with local native plants and increase the public awareness and appreciation of the natural values through education initiatives and training.

To date, Shoalhaven Bushcare Groups have contributed 95,000 hours of volunteer labour to maintaining and improving one of our cities most valuable assets, our natural environment. This volunteer labour is equivalent to $2,850,000 of in-kind financial labour that Bushcare Groups have contributed since 2005.

Part of the partnership between Shoalhaven Council and the Bushcare Groups involves the preparation of Bushcare Action Group Action Plans that form the basis of a formal agreement between Council and the Bushcare Groups and guide all work that both parties are to be undertaken on the public reserve. The Bushcare Group Action Plans are a formal plan that is approved by Shoalhaven Council. It is important that you the community have input into the Bushcare Group Action Plans.

The following forums are your opportunity to have a say on the Bushcare Group Action Plans by registering and adding to the comments on each Bushcare Action Plan. These comments will trigger Council staff and Bushcare volunteers to undertake more detailed consultation, such as site meetings and face to face to meetings with residents.
